Fir and spruce have very similar technical characteristics of wood. It has longevity because of the resin content as a natural conservator, and also withstands external weather conditions as a final product. Fir and spruce wood color is light yellow to brown. The texture may be denser or infrequent depending on the density of annual wood rings. Fir and spruce in its texture can have noticeable resin channels that manifest themselves as yellow lines. Medium density of rough wood is about 0.45 g / cm³. Also wood hardness is medium. Fir and spruce are often used as lumber material wood but they are also good for carpentry. European silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and common spruce (Picea abies L.) are native coniferous species in Croatia that grow in mountainous regions. The best quality of fir and spruce stands grows in “selection forests” in Croatia.
